Ahead of Christmas, the Enugu State Police Command has reaffirmed the state’s prohibition on the sale and unauthorized use of firecrackers.
Enugu Commissioner of Police CP Kanayo Uzuegbu issued a statement on Sunday via X through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, informing dealers and users that the prohibition is still “in full force” and advising them to “desist forthwith.”
“CP Uzuegbu emphasized that the risks of detonating explosives such as firecrackers and knockout bangers include enabling criminals, causing injuries, and fire outbreaks.”

He emphasized how pyrotechnics have a “tendency” to encourage criminal activity, increase hostilities, and present “hazards to human life and property” in the dry, harsh winter months.
The CP urged parents to prevent their children from purchasing or using pyrotechnics, threatening to “hold violators accountable for the full force of the law.”
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and leaders of Tactical Units were given orders by CP Uzuegbu to “enforce the ban to the letter” and provide impenetrable security throughout the Christmas season.
He declared, “We will not tolerate any security breaches in their jurisdictions.”
