Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes is confident that Xabi Alonso will remain with the club beyond the current season. Despite strong interest from top European clubs, particularly Liverpool, Rolfes emphasized his certainty about Alonso’s continued presence at Leverkusen. The team’s recent 3-0 triumph over Bayern Munich has solidified their position in the Bundesliga title race under Alonso’s leadership.

Rolfes, speaking to Sport1, outlined three reasons for his confidence in retaining Alonso. He pointed to the existing contract, which binds Alonso to the club until 2026. Rolfes also highlighted Alonso’s comfort and satisfaction, both personally and with his family, emphasizing the strong connection he has with the club.

While reports suggest Alonso’s contract includes a release clause, applicable only to his former clubs—Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid—Rolfes expressed assurance in Leverkusen’s ability to retain the talented manager.

Alonso’s potential move to Real Madrid, despite having a release clause, could face challenges as the club remains committed to Carlo Ancelotti, who recently signed a new contract. Liverpool, in search of a new manager with Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure, has been strongly linked with Alonso.

Despite the managerial uncertainties at Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Leverkusen has experienced a highly successful season under Alonso, with only four games not resulting in victories across all competitions. Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak extends back to the final day of the 2022/23 campaign, adding further weight to Rolfes’ confidence in retaining Alonso.
