Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, a former Presidential aspirant and medical doctor, has advised Nigerians with specific health conditions to refrain from watching the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final match on Sunday.
As the Medical Director of Sckyé Hospitals, Akure, Dr. Ikubese expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones during the semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa. Notably, among the deceased were former House of Representatives member and ex-Executive Director of NDDC, Cairo Ojougboh, and Anambra-born billionaire High Chief Osondu Nwoye.
Dr. Ikubese explained that the emotional intensity of the match, particularly the controversial decisions made by the referee and subsequent events, led to distress and, tragically, the loss of lives.

In light of this, he cautioned individuals with heightened emotional sensitivity and heart conditions to exercise caution during the upcoming AFCON grand finale on February 11 between Nigeria and host Cote D’Ivoire. Dr. Ikubese recommended that those in this category should either abstain from watching the live transmission or adopt diversionary activities, such as engaging with their phones, to minimize emotional reactions.
He emphasized that these individuals should avoid screaming or displaying intense emotions. If discomfort persists, Dr. Ikubese advised them to discontinue watching. For those uncertain about maintaining composure, he suggested boycotting the live transmission and watching highlights afterward.
While congratulating the Super Eagles for their commendable performances, Dr. Ikubese urged them to give their best in the grand finale and bring home the trophy, providing Nigerians with a reason to celebrate during challenging times.
