The career of Gabonese forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been on an up-and-down rollercoaster over the past 12 months. Just one year ago, in the January transfer window of the 2021/22 season, the former captain of Arsenal was introduced as a Barcelona player at Spotify Camp Nou.

Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona was like a prison break for him because his career had hit a snag in the second half of the previous campaign due to his falling out of favor with Mikel Arteta, his former manager at Emirates Stadium.

Prior to the club terminating his contract and allowing him to join Barcelona on a free transfer in the winter of 2021/22, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was relieved of the captaincy at Emirates Stadium.
