With regards to Antoine Griezmann, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have come to an agreement.
An agreement has been struck between FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid regarding the sale of Antoine Griezmann.

Under the direction of former president Josep Bartomeu, the Frenchman left Atleti in the summer of 2019 and transferred to Barca.

However, Griezmann left Camp Nou in August 2021, just like Lionel Messi had done, after being forced to play on the left wing and failing to adjust to his playing style.

Griezmann returned to his former club on a two-year deal that was rumored to have included an obligatory โ‚ฌ40mn ($40mn) payment to purchase the World Cup champion in 2023 while the Argentine moved to Paris Saint-Germain in Griezmann’s country on a free.

Atleti disputed this and recognized that paying the amount would only be necessary if Griezmann played for more than 45 minutes in 50% of their games. Head coach Simeone drove home this point by always inserting the 31-year-old after the hour mark.

Barca next researched legal options. But recently, Atleti has started Griezmann from the beginning of two crucial games, including the Madrid derby, which they lost to Real Madrid, and another loss on Tuesday to Clube Brugge in the Champions League.

This lent some credence to rumors that Barca and Atleti had found a solution to their issue, and on Wednesday morning, Cadena SER reported that the two parties had agreed to sell Griezmann for a pitiful sum of โ‚ฌ20 million ($20 million).

It doesn’t take a mathematical genius to figure out that Barcelona will lose a whopping โ‚ฌ100 million if they sell Griezmann for this sum. However, if the sale goes through, there are certain advantages to be had, such as the fact that the Catalans won’t soon have a problem as a result of his exorbitant salaries.

Griezmann was rumored to have accepted a 40% wage cut from his previous salary of โ‚ฌ21 million ($21 million) as Blaugrana’s top earner to โ‚ฌ10 million ($10 million) year at Atleti.

It is believed that under Joan Laporta, who succeeded Bartomeu, no first team player earns more than โ‚ฌ10 million ($10 million) a year.
