According to news reports, a Japan Airlines aircraft seemed to have collided with a coast guard aircraft and caught fire on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Tuesday.
The plane was seen traveling down the runway in the photos posted by broadcaster NHK when an explosion of orange flames appeared behind and beneath it.

Television sources claimed that the Airbus and a Coast Guard aircraft had collided, though the exact cause of the event was not immediately apparent.
According to reports, the aircraft had just landed from Sapporo airport, located on the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan.

The television picture showed the plane’s nose on the ground with rescue workers spraying it and flames shooting out of the windows.
The runway was littered with smoldering trash as well.
According to NHK, more than 70 fire engines were being used.
It has been decades since there was a significant commercial aircraft accident in Japan.
At its worst, 520 passengers and crew perished in the 1985 accident of a JAL jumbo jet traveling from Tokyo to Osaka in the central Gunma region.
That incident was among the deadliest single-flight jet crashes in history.
