“Anthony Taylor is set to officiate the Chelsea vs. Manchester City match on Sunday, despite his recent controversial penalty decisions.
Taylor faced a temporary demotion to the Championship after his contentious decision to award Newcastle a penalty in their 2-2 draw against Wolves at Molineux last month. The Premier League’s Independent Key Match Incidents Panel reviewed the ruling and deemed it incorrect.
In response to his earlier mistake, Taylor was assigned to officiate the Preston vs. Coventry game on Saturday as a form of discipline. Unfortunately, he once again found himself embroiled in controversy, this time awarding a soft penalty to Preston, who eventually won 3-2 at Deepdale.

Nevertheless, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), responsible for overseeing refereeing, expressed satisfaction with Taylor’s overall performance and has reinstated him to officiate the Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Jarred Gillett has also been confirmed as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the match.”
