In 2015, while Edwards was in the eighth grade, his mother, Yvette, and grandmother, Shirley, both passed away from cancer during an eight-month period. Since they both passed away on the fifth day of the month in high school, he has worn the No. 5 basketball jersey in their honor. Edwards’ sister Antoinette and brother Antoine, who shared legal care of him, reared him as a consequence. Edwards routinely served as a teacher at several youth camps while still in high school. While attending the University of Georgia, he wanted to study in marketing. Edwards was a superb baseball player when he was a kid, sometimes serving as his team’s fourth or fifth batter in the batting order. Edwards has also made light of the fact that, in his youth, he excelled in a number of sports. He has two dogs and has admitted to having a soft spot for lions, but he doesn’t think he has the space to care for one. In the 2022 sports drama movie Hustle, Edwards makes his acting debut. Many people, including the movie’s producer and actor Adam Sandler, appreciated his portrayal as Kermit Wilts, the major antagonist.

The NBA fined Edwards $40,000 in September 2022 for releasing a video on September 10 in which he referred to a group of naked males as “gay.” He made an apology the next day, saying, “I’m truly sorry. What I said was immature, harsh, and disrespectful.”
