Andy Goldstein suggests that Mauricio Pochettino’s job might be in jeopardy if Chelsea fails to secure victories against Fulham and Burnley!
Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa over the weekend, marking their third loss in six games. As a result, they currently occupy 14th place in the standings, with a four-point cushion over 18th-placed Luton and trailing fourth-placed Tottenham by nine points.
Pochettino has already pleaded with the Chelsea board for patience, insisting that he is overseeing a process at Stamford Bridge, but Goldstein believes that the club could decide to sack the Argentine if they fail to win their next two games, against Fulham and Burnley.

Goldstein commented, “As I examine the current Chelsea squad, it doesn’t resemble a typical Chelsea team. It lacks a strong core, struggles to find the back of the net, and has only managed five goals in six games, with three of them against Luton. Over the past six years, they’ve invested nearly €300 million in strikers, yet none of them have delivered. While injuries are a factor, they affect all clubs. Nicolas Jackson has only scored one goal in six games. I wonder how much of this can be attributed to owner Todd Boehly?”
He continued, “When Boehly took over, he spent over £1 billion on players. His background isn’t in English football, and it seemed like a hasty and scattergun approach. They spent exorbitant amounts on various players, many of whom they didn’t need, and they failed to address the primary issue from the start, which was acquiring a prolific goalscorer. This issue persists.”
Goldstein concluded, “Looking at the upcoming fixtures—Fulham away, Burnley away, Arsenal at home, Brentford at home, Spurs away, City at home, Newcastle away, Brighton at home, Manchester United away—they’re all challenging games. When a team is struggling, these matches become even tougher. Personally, I believe if Chelsea can’t secure victories against Fulham and Burnley, Pochettino’s tenure could be in jeopardy.”
The Blues face Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before their return to league action against Fulham.
