Lezibi Usman was detained by the Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday night for allegedly killing Olatunji Sunday on Monday night in Ikare Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area, Ondo State.

PUNK Metro learned that the incident happened as the victims, who are young people, were enjoying a carnival-style New Year’s celebration.

An unnamed eyewitness told our correspondent that Usman, the driver of the car, lost control and crashed his car right into the middle of the young people conducting a parade along the road.

“Youths from the Olokelede area of Ikare were holding a procession from Ekan to Okela when the accident happened at the Sago area of the community,” he stated, referring to the regrettable tragedy that occurred yesterday evening.

The eyewitness reported, “Two victims were seriously injured and were taken to the hospital; however, one of them passed away this morning, Tuesday.”

Funmilayo Odunlami, the public relations officer for the state police, verified the arrest and stated that one person was killed and three others were injured when the bus struck four people during the carnival.

It happened while the youths were holding their carnival, one person died while the other three are receiving treatment at the hospital. I have not got the names of the other three victims.

The driver of the bus is in our custody,” the PPRO stated.

Similarly, the state sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Ezekiel Son’Allah, confirmed the incident but said there was no life lost in the incident

According to Son’Allah, the crash was caused by speed violation on the part of the driver.

“Only two were injured and no one died in the accident. The injured victims were taken to Inland Hospital, Ikare for medical attention while the crashed vehicle was taken to the FRSC base, Ikare for safekeeping,” the FRSC official said.
