The late Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, passed away nine days ago, and his remains landed in Nigeria on Friday.

The former chief press secretary wrote this to the late governor, Mr. Richard Olatunde, on Facebook.

After a lengthy illness, Akeredolu passed away in Germany on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. He was sixty-seven years old.

The plane carrying the deceased person’s body landed on Friday, January 5, 2024, at approximately 3:39 p.m., according to Olatunde’s post.

He declared, “The late Governor passed away in Germany, and his remains were transported into the nation from there.

“His siblings, led by his immediate younger brother, Prof. Wole Akeredolu, received the body along with his wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, and his children.

His children, siblings, and immediate younger brother, Prof. Wole Akeredolu, received the remains. Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his wife, also attended.

“Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi; Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; and Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, participated in receiving the body.

“At the airport to receive the body of the former were Ade Adetimehin, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State; Hon. Gboyega Adefarati, a member of the House of Representatives; and a few members of the Ondo State Executive Council, led by Princess Oladunni Odu, the Secretary to the State Government.

As the late governor’s body was being dropped from the plane, his family, supporters, friends, and allies were unable to suppress their emotions.

It was learned that the late governor’s remains had been kept in the morgue till his last resting place.

The former governor’s assistant stated that the family will make the specifics of the funeral plans public at a later time.
