Aitana Bonmatí has been crowned The Best FIFA Women’s Player for the second consecutive year, winning the 2024 award after an extraordinary year on and off the pitch.
The Barcelona midfielder, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in women’s football, achieved a historic double-double by pairing her second Ballon d’Or Féminin with another FIFA honor. She secured the Ballon d’Or in October with a landslide victory, further cementing her dominance.
Bonmatí’s 2023/24 season was nothing short of remarkable. She led Barcelona to a historic quadruple, winning the Champions League, Liga F, Copa de la Reina, and Supercopa de España. Internationally, she added another accolade by helping Spain win the 2023/24 UEFA Nations League, scoring a crucial goal in their 2-0 final victory over France.

Across the season, the 26-year-old recorded an impressive 26 goals and 20 assists for club and country. Her form has carried over into the 2024/25 campaign, where she has already contributed seven goals and five assists.
One of Bonmatí’s standout moments came in the 2023/24 Champions League final, where she opened the scoring in the 63rd minute to help Barcelona secure a 2-0 victory over Lyon, ensuring they retained their European crown.
Since its inception in 2016, The Best FIFA Women’s Player award has been won by seven players, including Bonmatí. Before her back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024, her Barcelona teammate Alexia Putellas claimed the honor twice in succession.
This year’s 16-player shortlist included several of Bonmatí’s current and former teammates. Barcelona stars Caroline Graham Hansen, Keira Walsh, Ona Batlle, and Salma Paralluelo were among the nominees, while Lucy Bronze and Mariona Caldentey, now at Chelsea and Arsenal, respectively, were also recognized for their contributions during the 2023/24 season.
