In reaction to comments made by Ghana’s Andre Ayew regarding the difficulty of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) compared to the FIFA World Cup, Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, supports Ayew’s viewpoint.
Ayew, who plays for Ghana’s Black Stars, expressed his belief that AFCON is a tougher tournament, citing its challenges in terms of fighting spirit, determination, and energy. Following Ayew’s remarks, Musa, in an interview with Sienu TV, echoes his agreement with the Ghanaian player’s assessment.

Musa emphasizes that in African football, AFCON is not about the beauty of the game but rather about the intensity, aggression, and hard-fought matches. He contrasts this with the World Cup, where technique plays a more significant role.
“In the World Cup, you have to use technique, but in African football, nobody cares about technique – they just do their best to make it hard,” states the 31-year-old Super Eagles forward.
Musa, who played a crucial role in helping Nigeria qualify for AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire, reflects on his continued active participation in the national team. Having won the AFCON in 2013 and contributed to the Super Eagles’ third-place finish in the 2019 edition, Musa highlights the distinctive nature of African football in the AFCON competition.
