Students’ cell phones and other electronic devices were taken away during the operation, according to a local source who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation.

Our correspondent also discovered that one of the locals reportedly informed the police about the operations in the area while the robbery was still going on.

The suspected robbers opened fire on the anti-crime patrol team that had been sent to the hostel to free the students from their attackers as soon as they saw the police officers approaching the scene.

It was discovered by PUNCH Online that one of the robbers was slain during the ordeal.

The state police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp conversation with our correspondent on Thursday. She stated that other suspects who left the scene were injured to differing degrees.

“In the gunfight, one of the four suspects was neutralized. With gunshot wounds, the three escaped the scene of the robbery. Five iPhones, one Techno phone, a wristwatch, an iPod, and a power bank were found in a bag that our men found. Other suspects who are escaping are being sought after, according to Odutola.
