Following Nigeria’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 victory over Cameroon on Saturday, Nwabali was stretchered off in the closing moments of the game due to a collision with Georges-Kévin N’Koudou. Francis Uzoho, who was initially displaced by Nwabali in the national team, came on as his replacement.

Peseiro addressed reporters after the match, stating, “We will assess the extent of Nwabali’s injury in the next 24 to 48 hours. It’s challenging to evaluate his condition during the game, but I am optimistic that he will be fit for the next match. I want him to play, and the players want him to play.”
