The Libyan Football Federation is in a state of panic after CAF requested documents regarding the cancellation of the AFCON qualifying Group D match against Nigeria. This request follows Nigeria’s refusal to play after their plane was diverted to Labraq Airport, where they were held for 18 hours without food or water.
According to Libya Al-Ahrar Channel, Nasser Al-Suwaie, the Secretary-General of the Libyan FA, confirmed in a special statement that CAF has given both the Libyan and Nigerian football associations until the 20th of this month to submit the necessary documentation related to the incident.
Al-Suwaie stated that the Libyan FA has hired a specialized lawyer to gather evidence, expressing concerns about possible collusion from certain parties within CAF but asserting that the Libyan Federation’s position remains strong.

He emphasized that the Libyan Federation did not alter the plane’s landing to Al-Abraq Airport, explaining that the diversion was a decision made by the Libyan government and that the sovereignty of the Libyan state must be respected.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles returned to Nigeria on Monday, recounting their ordeal of sleeping on the bare floor of the airport. Team manager Patrick Pascal described how the toilet facilities were deliberately vandalized by Libyan officials in anticipation of their arrival.
