Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinal against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Angola’s players and officials have received substantial financial support and valuable gifts. The Palancas Negras secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Namibia 3-0 in the Round of 16.
Banco Angolano de Investimento, an Angolan bank, has pledged to reward each Angola player and coaching staff with five million Kwanzas (approximately N5.41 million) if they reach the semifinals. In addition, Aguinaldo Jaime, President of the Board of Directors of UNITEL, a private Angolan mobile phone firm, gifted each member of the Angolan delegation in Cote d’Ivoire an iPhone 15 with a year of free calls, SMS, and internet access.
SODIAM EP has also stepped in, offering the team a significant incentive of US$250,000 (equivalent to N225 million) if they manage to beat the Super Eagles in the upcoming match.

Both Nigeria and Angola enter the quarterfinal match undefeated in the competition. Coach Jose Peseiro of the Super Eagles acknowledged the upcoming challenge, stating that the quarterfinal against Angola is expected to be tougher than the previous match against Cameroon. Despite commending his players for the 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions, Peseiro emphasized the need for focus and additional training before the crucial quarterfinal clash.
The quarterfinal match between Angola and Nigeria is scheduled for Friday, 2nd February, at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan.
