The center-back secured his fourth goal in the AFCON finals during Nigeria’s semi-final triumph against South Africa on Wednesday night. Stephen Keshi, a former Super Eagles captain and coach, previously held the distinction as the sole defender to achieve this feat.
Troost-Ekong initiated his AFCON goal tally in Nigeria’s 2-1 semi-final victory against South Africa at the AFCON 2019 finals hosted by Egypt. He then doubled his tally in a group game against Sudan two years later in Cameroon.

The 30-year-old defender, currently with PAOK Salonica in Greece, has added two more goals for the Super Eagles in the ongoing AFCON 2023 finals in Cote d’Ivoire. Troost-Ekong, who has represented Nigeria 70 times, now boasts a total of six goals to his name.
