The Football Federation of Côte d’Ivoire is in the process of arranging a temporary collaboration with Hervé Renard, the current coach of the France women’s national team, to guide the national team for the remainder of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is being hosted in their home country.
Renard, with extensive experience in managing football teams in both Côte d’Ivoire and the broader African continent, has previously held coaching positions with the national teams of Zambia, Morocco, and Côte d’Ivoire. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the first coach to secure the Africa Cup of Nations title with two different nations: Zambia in 2012 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2015.
This decision follows the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset as the manager of the Ivorian team after a 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea in their final group-stage match.

According to reports from L’Équipe, the Ivorian Football Federation has approached the French Football Federation (FFF) to discuss a short-term loan of Renard. Currently under contract with the French women’s team until the Olympic Games in August 2024, Renard is expected to contribute his expertise temporarily without disrupting his commitments to the French women’s team.
Despite a challenging group stage where Côte d’Ivoire secured only 3 points, the team advanced to the knockout stages as one of the four best third-placed teams. The Elephants, having won one match and lost two, are now gearing up to face Senegal, one of the tournament favorites, in a demanding round-of-16 clash scheduled for Monday, January 29, at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
