According to reports in Spain, Barcelona has identified Joshua Kimmich, Amadou Onana, Aleix Garcia, and Mats Wieffer as their primary targets for midfield recruitment in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The departure of club legend Sergio Busquets to Inter Miami in MLS at the end of the 2022/23 season has left a void in Barcelona’s midfield. Despite financial constraints last summer, which limited their transfer activity to free transfers and bargain deals, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is determined to bolster the midfield ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Among the targeted players, Everton’s Amadou Onana is highly regarded by Barcelona for his physicality, confidence, aerial prowess, and attacking threat. However, acquiring Onana could prove costly, with Everton reportedly demanding around €60m for the Belgium international, although this figure might be negotiable, especially if Everton faces relegation from the Premier League.

Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is another coveted option for Barcelona, although his high salary demands and competition from English clubs could complicate any potential deal.
Netherlands international Mats Wieffer has also caught Barcelona’s eye, with former Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst endorsing him. Unlike Onana and Kimmich, Wieffer could be available at a more modest fee of €25m.
Finally, Aleix Garcia of Girona presents a more budget-friendly option for Barcelona. Garcia has impressed in La Liga, and his €15m release clause makes him an attractive prospect for the Catalan club.
