Barcelona finds themselves in a time-sensitive race to reduce their wage bill and complete the registration of manager Hansi Flick before the upcoming season, as per a recent report.

Flick was introduced as Barcelona’s new manager earlier this week, stepping in for former boss Xavi following a disagreement with club president Joan Laporta regarding the team’s squad strength, which led to Xavi’s departure.

According to MARCA, Barcelona is currently unable to register Flick’s contract with La Liga due to exceeding their current salary cap. Xavi’s registration only extended until this summer, prompting the club to acknowledge the necessity of lowering their current wage expenses before registering any new personnel.

Additionally, four other players are yet to be registered for the upcoming season. While Gavi and Alejandro Balde are anticipated to be registered before summer’s end, uncertainties linger regarding Vitor Roque and Inigo Martinez, both of whom may depart the club.

In order to register Flick, along with Gavi, Balde, and potential returnee Eric Garcia, who impressed during his loan spell with Girona, Barcelona must generate substantial funds in the transfer market.

Decisions on loanees Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix must be made, and Barcelona might be compelled to entertain offers for several players within Flick’s squad. Speculation surrounds the futures of defenders Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde, as well as forwards Ferran Torres and Raphinha, while midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s future remains uncertain.

The departure of Marcos Alonso on a free transfer should alleviate some financial pressure, but Barcelona must continue to generate additional funds in the coming months to realize their objectives.
