AC Milan, the prominent Italian football club, has officially confirmed ongoing discussions regarding the potential postponement of Samuel Chukwueze’s participation in the AFCON tournament. Despite being selected by Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro for the AFCON squad as Nigeria aims to clinch the title after a decade-long wait, AC Milan is exploring the option of delaying Chukwueze’s arrival due to their busy schedule in Serie A.

The club’s coach, Stefano Pioli, recently disclosed that talks are underway to extend the stay of both Chukwueze and Algerian player Ismael Bennacer beyond their initially expected departure dates. Pioli mentioned the ongoing discussions when asked about the availability of the players for the Coppa Italia clash against Cagliari on January 2.

While Chukwueze and Bennacer contributed to Milan’s victory over Sassuolo in the final game of the year, it remains uncertain if Chukwueze, a rising star, will be present from the beginning of the AFCON campaign. AC Milan is actively seeking an agreement for his late arrival, with Nigeria scheduled to kick off their AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14, where Chukwueze is expected to play a significant role.
