Attempts to resuscitate Mudiagha failed, although the other pupil was said to have recovered later.
He was reportedly sent for a medical check and declared deceased at an unidentified hospital.
Upon being contacted, Dr. Sammy Kpenu, the University of Port Harcourt’s spokesperson, verified the occurrence and expressed regret over it.
But according to Kpenu, the event took place in an off-campus residence, and the person who is accused of giving Mudiaga the material has been taken into custody.
The spokesperson went on to say that the deceased’s parents had arrived to receive their son’s body.
“Yes, that did happen,” he said. But rather being on the campus of the university, it was at the off-campus (accommodation). I’m not a doctor, therefore we can’t confirm if it was an overdose as said.
However, based on the information we have, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital, and his parents have arrived and removed his body.
“What transpired is extremely regrettable, and yesterday (Thursday) his parents arrived to collect his remains.” He was reportedly given the substance by a youngster who has since been detained.
