Thursday’s early-morning fire in Benin City, Edo State, burned commodities estimated to be worth over N50 million and completely destroyed a commercial structure.

The inferno reportedly began at approximately 4.am at the building on Second East Circular Road, opposite New Market in Benin City, the state capital.

PUNK According to Metro, most of the building’s store owners exchanged repurposed clothing and food items.

Goods valued at N10 million were allegedly lost by a couple operating two stores in the building, simply known as Ndidi and Blessing.

We have lost our livelihood as well as goods valued at N10 million. Ndidi bemoaned, “Please let the government help us.

Repeated electric sparks from a wire attached to an electricity pole in front of one of the stores caused the fire, which quickly spread to other stalls and put the nearby buildings in danger.

It was reported that the Edo State Fire Service’s prompt presence prevented the situation from getting worse.
