In Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, a mentally disturbed guy who was brought to a church (name withheld) for deliverance stabbed another worshipper deeply with a cutlass.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, the incident occurred on Sunday as the victim was being match-matched by the pastor, who was leading the man in a deliverance session.

During a battle with the pastor, other members, and witnesses, the mentally disturbed man grabbed a cutlass off the altar and attacked one of the members while the prayers were still going on.

“The man of God claimed he could heal the madman and started praying,” a church insider stated. During the prayers, the madman got into a fight with the pastor and other churchgoers, took a cutlass off the altar, and hit one of the believers.

“The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was said to be responding to treatment, while the mentally challenged man was later taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation and medication.”

Our correspondent learned that the individual with mental disabilities had invited his family to come in for questioning.

When reached, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police, confirmed the event.

“Today, 14/1/2024, the Anambra State Police Command arrested the owner of a church in Obosi where a crazy man picked up a cutlass and gave a member of the church a deep cut during a deliverance service,” stated Ikenga.The victim was brought to a hospital in the interim, and he is now responding to therapy. According to preliminary accounts, the man of God began praying and declared he could heal the crazy.

During the course of the prayers, the insane man got into a fight with the pastor, other participants, and witnesses. He took a cutlass off the altar and injured one of the participants.

Furthermore, his relatives are being questioned in a secure setting while the suspected mentally ill person is being sent to a hospital for a mental health assessment and medicine. Please provide further details when they become available.
