Hugill is on the verge of completing a loan move to League One club Wigan Athletic, prompting his withdrawal to facilitate the transfer.

Manchester United are eager for the 20-year-old to gain more regular playing time for his development, following a loan stint in the second half of last season at Burton Albion, where he made 18 League One appearances, scoring once and assisting three times.

Although Hugill was an unused substitute in two Champions League matches last season and featured in one Premier League matchday squad, Manchester United believe a loan is the best course of action for his current development phase.
