Speaking to O Jogo about Benfica’s rising star, Matic expressed admiration, stating, “He is fantastic. At just 19 years old, he is a fantastic player. He is the future of Benfica. Of course, he has also caught the eye of some Premier League clubs. I truly appreciate players like him, young yet displaying remarkable maturity.”

“I believe it’s premature for him to make the leap to leave,” Matic continued. “If I were in his shoes, I would stay at Benfica for a few more years, experiencing the Champions League and further maturing. I’m confident his time will come, and therefore, he need not rush.”

Matic, now 35, enjoyed a successful stint at Manchester United, making 183 appearances for the club after his £31 million transfer from Chelsea in 2017. Despite his own fruitful spell at Old Trafford, Matic emphasizes the importance of patience and development, drawing on his own experiences.

Having begun his career with Benfica, Matic underscores the significance of Neves potentially following a similar trajectory and waiting before making the transition to English football.
