Later reports allayed these worries, revealing that the injury was not as serious as the former Real Madrid defender had initially feared. The 29-year-old was expected to be out for “three to four weeks” with a probable lesion on his femoral biceps in the thigh muscle, but should be able to play in the championship game.

In the center of United’s defense at Stamford Bridge and for the ensuing match against FC Sheriff, Varane was swapped out for Victor Lindelof. But due to illness, the Swede was unable to play against West Ham on Sunday. As a result, club captain Harry Maguire replaced Lisandro Martinez at the center of United’s defense.

Before the game on Sunday, Varane posted a picture of his recuperation session to his Instagram account and wrote: “Thank you everyone for the wonderful sentiments this week. I have been employed! enjoying myself. Good luck, Manchester United players, today!

Jaap Stam, a former United defender, had expressed doubt about Varane’s emotional response to the injury he sustained in West London, claiming that the Frenchman’s injury did not warrant such a response from him.

Which central Man Utd defense duo do you think is the best?

After suffering an injury in the second half of Chelsea vs. Man Utd, Raphael Varane was visibly upset.

Varane’s injury response was criticized by Stam, who said: “There are things worse than this.” He was quite emotional, the former United defender continued. He was just lying on the field after he collapsed, and when he finally got up, he was inconsolable.

“From what I could see, he appeared to be experiencing hamstring pain. Of course, we’re not sure yet. I’m not sure what to say about this; he presumably believes he won’t make the World Cup or something; but I don’t understand why he was acting so visibly upset on the field.

You attempt to understand why a player is being so emotionally charged, and Iโ€ฆ I believe that there are worse things than this.

France’s World Cup title defense begins on November 22 against Australia, followed by matches against Denmark and Tunisia in their respective groups. Varane is unlikely to return to action for United until domestic football resumes after the competition.
