Graham Potter acknowledges that leaving Brighton “was not wonderful” for budding musicians Billy Gilmour and Levi Colwill, but maintains that he is not at fault.
Both young players moved from Chelsea to Brighton over the summer, with Colwill moving on loan and Gilmour signing permanently. Potter, however, quickly made the opposite move.
Gilmour has come off the bench three times and Colwill has only done it twice for the Seagulls in Premier League games.

Colwill won’t be able to participate in Saturday’s match between Brighton and Chelsea, and Gilmour will be itching for an opportunity to prove his mettle against Chelsea.
Potter acknowledges that his relocation to Stamford Bridge hasn’t done much to advance the careers of the young players, but he claims that this is just a fact of life in football and maintains that they are still in a position to succeed.
Potter explained why Gilmour and Colwill haven’t been participating in team activities as follows: “That’s because the team was doing well; the team was fourth, and Webster, Dunk, and Veltman are three very good players. Levi would have to compete to get into there, and Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo are two big players so Billy would as well.
“I think both understood their roles, but it’s obvious that the time of my departure was not ideal for them, but that’s life,” she said. Although I shouldn’t apologise for it, I do realise that the timing is not ideal and that it is not fantastic from their point of view.
But in real life, these possibilities occasionally arise and at less than perfect moments. Both of them are talented young athletes with promising futures who play for a solid club with caring staff. Let’s see how they turn out.
