Despite the Blues’ strong recent form, Ally McCoist has singled out three Chelsea players who need to step up their game. According to the Rangers legend, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, and Kai Havertz must all improve upon their performances from this season thus far.

In Austria, Havertz scored an incredible goal to win the match. His 20-yard shot hit the crossbar and went in, rendering Philipp Kohn helpless.

The German has only scored three goals in all competitions so far this year. Havertz needs to start giving more frequent performances, according to McCoist.

“I think that is Havertz, I think he is capable of that, I think he is capable of pure greatness,” the Scot said to talkSPORT. I have no idea [why he doesn’t do it more frequently]. a similar degree of constancy.

To be fair to him, he has occasionally played in the centre before Aubameyang arrived, though I’m not sure he belongs in that position. He helped them win the Champions League and contributes with some key goals, but I’d like to see a bit more.”

At Salzburg, Aubameyang was wasteful in front of goal, and Sterling, who moved to Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer, has not gotten off to the start he would have liked.

Although McCoist is pleased with Chelsea’s overall play, he wants more from the offensive tandem. Added him: “The only thing that is significantly lacking is an Aubameyang who is fully engaged. Ist das fair?

Yes, Sterling as well. The good news is that they’re going to be a great outfit once they get rolling, and they will.

They appeared quite amazing. I think the two finishers in the first half were of the highest calibre and it could have been three or four.

“I believe the Chelsea supporters, correctly, won’t be going overboard. They will be incredibly subtly moved by Potter’s beginning. To be honest, I don’t believe that comes as much of a surprise.

This Saturday in the Premier League, Potter will bring his Chelsea team to face Brighton. If other results go their way, a win may move the Blues into the top four.
