Despite receiving some early-season criticism, Graham Potter thinks Mason Mount has a very interesting future at Chelsea.
The 23-year-old had a rough start to the Premier League season, but under the new manager, he has recovered his form.
He hadn’t scored in any of the season’s first seven games, but Potter has since made him an important member of the squad.
The midfielder turned up a polished performance against Wolves, assisting teammates Havertz and Christian Pulisic in a 3-0 victory.
At the weekend, Mount was once again the hero after scoring the game’s only two goals against Aston Villa, one of which was a beautiful long-range free-kick.

The fact that Chelsea is currently on a run of five straight victories indicates that the English manager has certainly found his winning recipe there.

Although Mount has recovered his form, the season’s poor start was somewhat unexpected given that he had won Chelsea Men’s Player of the Year honors the previous two years.
Due to his rocky start, the midfielder took a lot of heat and responsibility for the team’s poor performance.
Potter, though, thinks that Mount has improved as a result of the recent criticism, as reported by Liam Twomey of The Athletic.
“The other stuff, the pieces underneath the water, are perhaps things people don’t recognize or perceive with him,” said Potter. He is an excellent professional and individual.
“Life is full with criticism. Everyone is free to express their thoughts, and that’s okay. I can only share my viewpoint when I talk. As an outsider, Mason was always a concern for us whenever we played Chelsea.
“Sometimes we forget that the game is about the team,” he continued. We focus on people too much, and when a team is struggling, people are the ones who suffer the most.
“But the team is always the key, and when the team isn’t operating at its best, individuals don’t perform as well as they can.
“He’s a young player, so maybe it has happened a little bit, and he will pick it up. It may be argued that suffering a little bit helps you realize and learn more about who you are, your work, and your life. He has overcome that, and as a result, he is better and stronger.”
On Wednesday night, Chelsea will travel to Brentford, where Mount might play a part once more.
Potter might decide to rest him as he has been playing a lot of games lately.
The England international will be hoping he maintains the excellent form he has recently displayed if he does play a part.
