The protagonist of Anikulapo is Saro, a traveling cloth weaver (Kunle Remi), who was murdered after having an affair with the Alaafin’s youngest wife, Arolake (Bimbo).
He is brought back to life by a fabled bird, who also leaves behind a gourd that has the ability to resurrect the dead.

Following her performance in the film, Aisha, who portrayed Sunkanmi, an elder wife of the Alaafin, became a popular subject on social media.
According to Aisha, her character Sunkanmi was faulted over Arolake’s decision to elope with Saro. Many believed that the ill-treatment received from Sunkanmi and her co-wife drove Arolake away.
Responding to the criticism in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Aisha Lawal defended her character, saying that Arolake was not a saint either as she faked a fever to have sex with the king knowing it was Sunkanmi’s turn
