Asha Parekh (born on October 2, 1942) is a former Indian actress, producer, and director who starred in a number of box office hits throughout the course of her career. She was one of the most popular and well-paid actresses of the 1960s and 1970s, earning the highest salary of any actress at the time. She is regarded as one of the greatest Hindi film actresses of all time. She received the Padma Shri award from the Indian government in 1992 for her contributions to the film industry, as well as the Dada Saheb Phalke award for 2020.

Gujarati native Asha Parekh was born on October 2, 1942. Her father, Bachubhai Parekh, was a Hindu Gujarati, and Sudha, also known as Salma Parekh, was a Bohra Muslim.
Early on, her mother enrolled her in school for Indian classical dance, and she studied under numerous instructors, among them Pandit Bansilal Bharati. As a young artist, Parekh began her career with the alias Baby Asha Parekh. She was cast in Maa (1952) at the age of 10 after renowned filmmaker Bimal Roy saw her perform on stage. He then used her again in Baap Beti (1954). She was dismayed by the failure of the latter picture, and although taking on a few more kid roles, she left the industry to go back to school. When she was sixteen, she made the decision to try acting once more and make her debut as a heroine, but Vijay Bhatt’s 1959 film Goonj Uthi Shehnai chose actress Ameeta over her because he felt she was not star material. Eight days later, precisely, she was cast as the lead in Dil Deke Dekho (1959), opposite Shammi Kapoor, by writer-director Nasir Hussain and film producer Subodh Mukherjee, who launched her career.

Parekh has not wed, alleging that her unapproachable reputation has discouraged individuals from asking for her hand in marriage. She verified rumors in her autobiography “The Hit Girl” that she had a romantic relationship with married filmmaker Nasir Hussain but was unable to marry him out of respect for both of their families. In the past, Parekh would only admit to having a long-term lover but would not go into further detail, saying only that “it was lovely while it lasted.” She claimed that Nasir Hussain had been reclusive after the death of his wife during the last year of his life, but she had spoken to him the day before he passed away in 2002.
