After Cristian Romero pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair, referee Anthony Taylor failed to examine his pitchside monitor, and Mike Dean has recognized that this was a mistake.
Near the end of Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, Spurs defender Romero grabbed Chelsea wing-back Cucurella.
After Dean, the video assistant referee, permitted the action to continue, Harry Kane quickly equalized for Spurs.

In the brief time he got to observe Romero yanking Cucurella’s hair, he claimed, “I didn’t regard it as a violent act.”
In an interview with MailPlus, Dean admitted, “I should have asked Taylor to visit his pitchside monitor to take a look for himself. I’ve subsequently watched the film and spoken to other referees.
The decision is always made by the field referee.
It comes after the Football Association looked into Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s post-game remarks concerning Taylor.
The German advocated against Taylor officiating Chelsea games going forward.
Following a heated altercation after the final whistle, the FA has charged both Tuchel and Antonio Conte of Spurs.
Both managers are accused of acting inappropriately.
