With over 138,000 Instagram followers, Queen Salawa Abeni is a Nigerian singer, mother, composer, producer, and brand influencer. She was born in Lagos, but she is originally from Ijebu Waterside in Ogun State. She began her music career when she was 13 years old and recorded her first professional album 47 years ago.
The album was the first Yoruba music recording to sell over a million copies in Nigeria by a female singer. In the 1970s, she was noted for pushing the “Waka” kind of music.

She is regarded as one of Nigeria’s and the world’s most accomplished and well-known Waka music singers. Waka is an Islamic-influenced traditional Yoruba music form popularised by Batile Alake, according to her.
