Ruben Amorim has urged Marcus Rashford to raise his performance and lead by example if he wants to return to the Manchester United squad.

Rashford has been excluded from Amorimโ€™s last three matchday squads after openly expressing a desire to seek a new challenge following his omission from the Manchester derby. When asked about Rashfordโ€™s struggles compared to other players, Amorim pointed out the 27-year-old’s unique responsibilities, which he believes Rashford has yet to fulfill.

“Like any other player, I expect them to be the best they can be,” Amorim said. “If you have big talents, I expect big performances, responsibility, engagement, and leadership. Some players have been here for a long time, and their responsibility is even greater.”

He continued, “This is one of the lowest moments in our clubโ€™s history, and we must face it with strength. Thatโ€™s what I want from every player on the team.”

Amorim also confirmed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United hierarchy had no influence on his decision to drop Rashford. “He wants to play. He’s trying. Itโ€™s my decision, and only my decision,” Amorim said.

The manager added, “Iโ€™ve spoken with many players individually during training. Iโ€™m doing things my way. If I donโ€™t do that, I would lose myself, and I will not lose myself. I know what Iโ€™m doing.”
