Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim has confirmed that Mason Mount’s latest injury will sideline the midfielder for “several weeks.”
The 25-year-old was forced off early during last weekend’s Manchester Derby, which United won 2-1 thanks to late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo. This marks another setback for Mount, who had already missed time earlier in the season due to a hamstring injury.
Mount’s debut season at Old Trafford was also riddled with injuries, limiting him to just 14 Premier League appearances. During the current 2024/25 campaign, he has managed only 243 minutes on the pitch.

Speaking at his latest press conference, Amorim acknowledged the severity of Mount’s situation. “Several weeks [he will be out for]. I don’t know the exact date, but it is going to be long. That’s it. It’s part of football, and we continue,” Amorim said.
When asked about Mount’s ongoing fitness struggles, he added, “That is not my department. What I can do is help him learn our game while he is recovering and give him time to focus on different aspects.”
Amorim went on to highlight the challenges of managing injuries in a packed schedule. “The worst part is that we don’t have time to train properly due to the relentless schedule. We’re always traveling, and it’s hard to recover fully in such conditions,” he explained.
Using Victor Lindelöf as an example, Amorim described the difficulty of balancing recovery and match fitness. “Vic trained really well and passed all the required tests, but a game is a completely different world. Players need more time to train and recover properly, but with rotation and tight schedules, it’s a challenge.”
Amorim expressed his support for Mount during this tough period. “With Mason, we’re going to help him. It’s really hard for a player to be sidelined for so long, but he’s working hard, and we’ll support him every step of the way.”
United’s hectic calendar, fueled by Europa League commitments and a now-ended Carabao Cup run following a 4-3 loss to Tottenham in the quarter-finals, has only added to the strain on the squad.
