Mohamed Salah set a new Premier League record for the most games in which he has both scored and assisted, achieving this feat in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on Wednesday.

The Egyptian forward scored twice and provided an assist for his side’s third goal, marking the sixth time this season he has been involved in every goal Liverpool have scored in a match. This took his tally to 13 goals and eight assists in just 14 games.

With this performance, Salah surpassed Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 36 games with both a goal and an assist. Salah reached 37 such games in 214 fewer appearances than the Manchester United legend, and with his current form, he is expected to extend this record further.

However, Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain. The 32-year-old is approaching the final six months of his contract, and there has been no indication of an extension agreement yet. Despite public frustration over the lack of a new deal, manager Arne Slot admitted he could not predict the outcome regarding Salah’s contract situation.

While Salah’s future is unclear, Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Virgil van Dijk regarding a contract extension, although the offer made to the Dutch defender did not meet his demands. It is expected that Salah will soon receive a formal offer, ahead of the possibility of speaking with foreign clubs.
