Ruben Amorim has rejected suggestions that Manchester United must sign a new striker to resolve their scoring struggles this season.
United have managed only 13 goals in 12 Premier League matches, with a particularly barren spell in late September and early October, where they failed to score in three consecutive games. Among league teams, only Everton, Crystal Palace, and Southampton have scored fewer goals. Strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have each found the net just once, while Alejandro Garnacho, with seven goals, and Marcus Rashford, with five, lead the scoring charts across all competitions.
Speculation has linked United with potential signings like Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani and Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface. However, such high-profile additions may be unlikely given reports that the club plans to operate with a more restrained transfer budget, focusing instead on improving the existing squad.

Amorim echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of developing the current players. Speaking ahead of United’s Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt, he acknowledged the team’s need for improvement but backed his forwards to deliver.
“Of course, there is concern about scoring goals, but I think we have to improve as a team because we have quality players who can score plenty,” Amorim said. “Against Ipswich, we controlled possession but weren’t dangerous enough. Perhaps that was because we spent the week working on our build-up, and other areas suffered as a result.”
He continued, “We’ll work on improving as a team, and Rasmus, Josh, and Rash will score more goals. Even Bruno [Fernandes] needs to score more. Amad [Diallo] has to be better near the goal. These players are capable of scoring more. You’re asking if I need a new striker, but I believe in the squad we have. It’s about making the team stronger collectively.”
Amorim’s remarks underline his commitment to unlocking the potential within the squad rather than seeking a quick fix in the transfer market, as United aim to address their attacking deficiencies.
