De Bruyne missed a significant portion of last season following hamstring surgery but made a crucial return to help City secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title. However, his 2024-25 campaign has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just four league starts before being sidelined again. He recently returned to the bench for City’s last two matches.

Addressing his future in a press conference on Monday, De Bruyne said: “I honestly don’t know. At the start of the season, I knew talks would happen, but then the injury against Brentford happened. It was supposed to be a couple of days, but it turned into eight or nine weeks. I put everything aside.”

He continued: “I had a conversation in the summer, but after the injury, I wasn’t in the right mindset to discuss it. I need to focus on getting back on the pitch and playing at my best again. There’s no rush, no discomfort, and I’m not worried.”
