Bruno Fernandes has explained why Alejandro Garnacho hesitated to celebrate his stunning goal against Leicester City, revealing that the young forward was reluctant to do so after feeling criticism from Manchester United fans.

Ruud van Nistelrooy ended his interim tenure as United manager with a 3-0 victory over the Foxes on Sunday. Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal and played a key role in Victor Kristiansen’s own goal, while Garnacho sealed the win with a brilliant strike in the 82nd minute after coming on as a substitute.

Despite the goal, Garnacho initially refrained from celebrating, believing he had lost the support of the Old Trafford faithful. Fernandes, however, urged the 20-year-old to ignore the critics and enjoy the moment.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes said: “It was a good day at work. We have a lot of players with big qualities, but people can get too excited after one game and too down after another.

“Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan, but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do. I told him to celebrate—it was something special. He’s a special player, and we have difference-makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score every game, but that isn’t going to happen.”

Despite the win, United remain in 13th place in the Premier League. The team will soon begin preparing for their upcoming matches under incoming head coach Ruben Amorim, although several players will first represent their national teams during the November international break.

Van Nistelrooy, who took over following Erik ten Hag’s sacking at the end of October, has also stated that he expects to learn in the coming days whether he will have a role under Amorim’s new management.
