Ruben Amorim, the incoming manager of Manchester United, has humorously suggested that he will be seen as “the new Sir Alex Ferguson” if his Sporting CP side beats Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Amorim, who has already been confirmed as Erik ten Hag’s successor, will officially take over at Old Trafford on November 11. With United having won just four of their 14 matches across all competitions so far this season, expectations for Amorim are already high.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Amorim said:

“I don’t think about increasing United fans’ expectations. My focus is on winning the match for Sporting. The conclusions others draw aren’t important to me, as they could be wrong.
“If we win tomorrow, people will think the new Alex Ferguson has arrived. But that will be very hard to live up to, and it could raise expectations. I don’t focus on that.”
