Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he retired from Manchester United to spend more time with his wife, Cathy, following the death of her sister.
Ferguson stepped down in 2013 after 27 years at Old Trafford, where he won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, and numerous other trophies.
Although many believed he retired due to his age, Ferguson explained on Ally McCoist’s podcast, Ally’s Social Club, that the decision was deeply personal. “Cathy’s sister had passed away the previous October, and she was struggling,” Ferguson said. “At Christmas, I told her, ‘I’m going to retire at the end of the season.'”

Ferguson could see how much it meant to Cathy. “She was delighted because she had been on her own. She had dedicated her life to me and our family. When I said I was retiring, I could see by her body language how happy she was.”
