Heavyweight contender Zhilei Zhang has expressed his support for Daniel Dubois in a potential rematch against Anthony Joshua, confidently predicting victory for the Briton.

In an interview with Seconds Out, Zhang voiced his belief that Dubois can replicate his September 21 victory at Wembley, where he knocked out Joshua in the fifth round.

“I can’t say I’m disappointed because, as a boxing fan, I look at it from that perspective,” Zhang remarked. “Joshua has been at the top for years, and being at the top of the food chain definitely changes your mentality.”

Zhang raised concerns about Joshua’s mental state following the loss, suggesting that a rematch could pose even greater challenges for the British-Nigerian fighter. “This defeat—I don’t know where it leaves him mentally, but I think the rematch could be a worst-case scenario for Joshua,” he added.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has indicated that Joshua is prepared for the challenge, despite the shocking setback that interrupted his pursuit of a third world title reign.

The heavyweight division has become increasingly fascinating, with both Joshua and Dubois being linked to potential matchups against elite opponents like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

However, the focus is now on the possible rematch between the former two-time world champion and Dubois, a fight that could have significant implications for both boxers’ careers. While Joshua seeks redemption, Dubois views the potential rematch as a chance to solidify his status among the division’s elite.

As anticipation grows, boxing fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement, with Zhang’s endorsement adding another layer of intrigue to the unfolding rivalry between Joshua and Dubois.
