Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has shared insights on the challenging task of facing Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, stating that only two center-backs can effectively stop the Norwegian goal-scoring sensation, as reported by Metro.
In a recent interview, Rudiger referred to Haaland as an “absolute beast” due to his remarkable physicality and power. With an impressive tally of 10 goals in just six Premier League games, Haaland has left defenders scrambling for solutions.
Having faced Haaland four times, Rudiger admitted he has struggled to contain the 24-year-old. “When I see his goals, if you put a high cross to the second post, you can’t beat him. If he wants, you’re under him every day,” Rudiger explained.

However, Rudiger identifies Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Arsenal’s William Saliba as the only defenders capable of matching Haaland. “In the last couple of years, the ones I’ve seen are Virgil [Van Dijk], who is the same size as him, making for a good matchup. I also have to say Saliba has done very well.”
His praise for Van Dijk and Saliba highlights their unique combination of size, strength, and defensive skills. “There are rarely people who can physically match him,” Rudiger noted.
Haaland’s physical prowess has left many defenders in awe, including Rudiger himself. “I don’t know what he eats or what he does, but he’s… wow, the power he has,” he exclaimed.
As the Premier League continues to showcase Haaland’s goal-scoring abilities, defenders will certainly take heed of Rudiger’s insights. The ability of Van Dijk and Saliba to contain Haaland will be a compelling subplot as the season unfolds.
