The USA topped the medal standings, securing its 40th gold medal. China followed closely in second place, also with 40 gold medals. Japan ranked third with 20 golds, and Australia placed fourth with 18. Host nation France slipped to fifth place with 16 golds.

Despite the efforts of all Nigerian athletes, the country missed out on winning any medals in this year’s Olympics.
