The deal seemed finalized a few days ago, with both sides reportedly agreeing on a £35 million fee, which would have seen the Nigeria-eligible player sign a seven-year contract with Chelsea.

All that remained were the routine medicals, but on Sunday, news emerged of a last-minute issue that derailed the transfer.

Reports indicate that Omorodion did not satisfactorily pass the medicals after returning from France, where he celebrated winning the men’s football Olympic tournament with the Spanish U-23 side.

Chelsea is now considering bringing back former loanee João Félix from Atlético Madrid.
