Pundit Jason McAteer has claimed that a conversation with a Manchester United player hinted at Southgate being the frontrunner for the managerial position. However, McAteer also mentioned that there are doubts about this possibility, particularly as another manager is reportedly the ‘leading candidate’ for the role.
A report from Football Insider suggests that although Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Dave Brailsford hold Southgate in high regard, negotiations for the Manchester United vacancy will not occur until after the European Championships. Instead, the club is expected to explore other options as they seek to usher in a new era under INEOS ownership.
According to the same report, Thomas Tuchel is believed to be the primary contender for the Manchester United managerial position.
