Cameroon’s goalkeeper Andre Onana attributes Manchester United icon Edwin van der Sar for providing invaluable support during his initial struggles at Old Trafford.

Onana joined Old Trafford from Ajax last summer, facing scrutiny after some uncertain performances. However, the 28-year-old has since progressed and expresses gratitude for being able to rely on the guidance of the former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper.

Van der Sar advised Onana to allow himself time to adjust and showcase his true abilities. “I spoke to him [Van der Sar] when I signed here [Manchester United] and even, I think, a few months ago,” Onana revealed to Inside United. “He told me: ‘Andre, what can I tell you already? You are already used to the pressure. Just give yourself time and show the world who you are. I already know who you are.'”

Onana further stated, “He had a great career here and he’s done a lot of things for Manchester United and for me. I am still in contact with him and very happy to talk to him sometimes, when we can. Talking about him is something great because he did a lot for me.”
