England manager Gareth Southgate declined to comment on speculation linking him to the Manchester United job.
Reports emerged earlier in the week, coinciding with the addition of United talent Kobbie Mainoo to the England squad, suggesting that Southgate had become a preferred choice for Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a potential replacement for current manager Erik ten Hag this summer.
Southgate, contracted with England until the end of the calendar year, recently stated that he has deferred discussions about his future until after Euro 2024, prioritizing his focus on the tournament.

“I’m the England manager,” Southgate stated during a press conference on Friday when questioned about the United links. “I’ve got one job, to try and deliver a European championship. Plus, Manchester United already have a manager, and it’s disrespectful to engage in speculation. Also, I am president of the LMA [League Managers Association]. I don’t have anything to add.”
Ratcliffe has expressed intentions to overhaul United’s management structure behind the scenes, emphasizing the need for organizational restructuring. He highlighted the importance of delineating roles such as coaching, recruitment, and strategy within the club’s hierarchy.
Dan Ashworth, currently on gardening leave from Newcastle United, is Ratcliffe’s preferred candidate for the role of United’s sporting director. Ashworth previously collaborated with Southgate during their time together at the FA.
